A future for wet dipping with diazinon
The project will investigate alternative dip replenishment regimens to those currently registered for the control of lice on short wool sheep. Both plunge and shower dipping will be investigated. Diazinon residues in soil from dip disposal sites will be measured with a view to developing guidelines for dip disposal.
Analysis of Farming Systems on the Western Plains of NSW
This project is a scoping study to characterise farming systems on the Western Plains of NSW and to identify constraints to production and to the uptake of new R&D in that area The outcome will be a prioritisation of R,D&E needs to assist all stakeholders to benefit from future investment by the grains industry in R,D&E.
Biology of Nutrient Partitioning - Trangie
This project will outline the biology underlying the differences between sheep in the way that they direct nutrients from their feed to wool, growth or reproduction.
CW CMA Healthy Soils
This project meets the CW CMA objective of developing community monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes for the data limited areas of the western part of the CW CMA area. Within this NSW DPI is partly responsible for delivering on the healthy soils component of the overall project which includes providing benchmarking data and the development of Soils Masterclass workshops.
Cattle feed efficiency Information package
Whilst both an affordable panel of DNA tests for genetic variation in feed efficiency and knowledge of the mode of action of new gene tests and associations with all commercially-important production traits are required (see Project on feed efficiency gene discovery and gene expression), without a comprehensive information package to underpin their commercialisation, widespread industry adoption is unlikely to occur.
Central West Grain & Graze
The project is part of the national Grain & Graze program that aims to enhance the profitability, productivity and sustainability of mixed farming systems in the cereal-sheep zone. The project aims to enhance productivity of the both the cropping and pasture phases of mixed farming operations and simultaneously achieve biodiversity benefits.
Climate science for better NRM in western NSW
This project will develop a capability to estimate total ground cover, and predict future ground cover trends, from spatial simulations of pasture growth and other data sets. The project will also demonstrate the benefits of applying pasture growth models and seasonal projections at the property level, and develop protocols for rapid model calibration.
Diazinon Occupational Health & Safety
This project aims to determine the levels of exposure of workers to diazinon when used as a sheep ectoparasiticide and from that define the necessary OH&S requirements to protect those workers in order that diazinon may be retained as a safe chemical for use in the sheep industry.
Elite cattle sires progeny test
The elite sire progeny test program will provide the tools necessary to position Australian genetics in the global market. It includes a comprehensive evaluation of steer program for growth, feed efficiency and carcass traits; plus evaluation of heifer progeny for growth, ultrasound carcass traits, calving ease and fertility.
Environmental Services Scheme
The Environmental Services Scheme (ESS) is a trial program to help the NSW Government create a market for a range of environmental services provided by landholders to the people of NSW. Through the ESS, the Government will work closely with landholders to identify how activities that provide environmental services can be incorporated alongside their existing production activities.
