Barley agronomy for Southern Australia
The project will develop a coordinated network of agronomic research and extension across the south eastern region ensuring that both a range of farming systems and environments are serviced, and that advanced knowledge on barley agronomy is provided to growers and advisors across the entire region.
Brassica Juncea Agronomy
Project partners will develop a "Research and Extension Program", focusing on B. Juncea crop development as follows: 1. Identifying optimal growing regions. 2. Confirming management issues or gaps to initiate coordinated on-farm research. 3. Conduct specific research trials to address agronomic information gaps. 4. Identifying collaborative grower groups working within these regions. 5. Educating primary producers on the value and benefits of the crop. 6. Providing technical support to groups.
Central West Grain & Graze
The project is part of the national Grain & Graze program that aims to enhance the profitability, productivity and sustainability of mixed farming systems in the cereal-sheep zone. The project aims to enhance productivity of the both the cropping and pasture phases of mixed farming operations and simultaneously achieve biodiversity benefits.
Eastern Barley Agronomy Research
This agronomy project aims to improve the profitability of barley producers in eastern Australia by increasing the production and reliability of supply of barley which meets the quality requirements of the malting, brewing and feed industries. This will be achieved by meeting growers’ needs for agronomic information for producing barley of consistent quality, especially in relation to new varieties. In particular, this project will undertake research to determine the key agronomic practices fo
Efficient weed control in central west NSW
Conduct trials and demonstrations in Central West dryland Farming belt for benefit of grain growers and associated agronomists and resellers.
Environmental Services Scheme
The Environmental Services Scheme (ESS) is a trial program to help the NSW Government create a market for a range of environmental services provided by landholders to the people of NSW. Through the ESS, the Government will work closely with landholders to identify how activities that provide environmental services can be incorporated alongside their existing production activities.
Field performance testing of new woody germplasm
This project aims to evaluate and test potential woody germplasm that has the ability to utilise available water (limiting the potential hydrological salinity effects) whilst producing an economically viable 'crop' for the land manager.
Genetic parameter estimation for meat traits in Merinos
Provide heritabilities or genetic correlations for Australian Merinos for carcass or meat quality traits.
Healthy Soils, Healthy Landscapes
The project will provide workshops to identify soil health problems and provide landholders with best management practice to improve soil health and increase productivity. The project will also improve soil information by building a database which will be available for CMAs and natural resource managers
High water-use farming systems that integrate crops with perennial pastures
Deep drainage of soil moisture beyond the root zone is a major contributor to dryland salinity. NSW Agriculture in collaboration with NRE, CSIRO, UWA, DAWA, University of Adelaide funded by the Salinity CRC and GRDC are researching farming systems that intergrate perennial pastures into annual cropping programs. The aim is to increase the "whole-of-rotation" water use in grain growing areas, reducing the risk of rising groundwater and salinity.
