Genus Acanthuchus Stål

Acanthuchus Stål 1866a: 87; Day 1999: 644

Type species: Acanthucus [sic.] gracilispinus Stål 1866, designated by Stål 1866b: 386

Known species: Seven described species are known

Distribution: all states of Australia with A. trispinifer introduced into NZ.

Comments: The species of this genus are recognisable by the presence of an anterior vertical process on the median longitudinal process of the pronotum. This varies quite considerably in prominence, as illustrated in the two images here, although how much of this variation is of taxonomic significance has not been tested.
Day (1999) recorded a range of plant species on which various Acanthuchus have been collected but noted that their main preference was for Acacia (Fabaceae).
