Genus Ipo Kirkaldy 1906: 464
Type species: Ipo ambita Kirkaldy, by original designation = Ipo pellucida (Fabricius)

Known species: Eight species are known, I. aegrota, I. minor, I. moorei, I pompais from Qld, I. conferta from Qld and NSW, I. sordida from Torres Strait islands,  I. hilli from NT and  I. pellucida from Qld, NT and WA.

Comments: These short stubby species are distinctive in collections because of their broad heads with prominent eyes narrowing abruptly along their relatively short wings. Evans (1966) called them "broadly wedge-shaped" as opposed to narrowly wedge-shaped for all other Ipoini. The two most collected species are I. pellucida, which reaches up to 6mm in males and 9mm in females, and I. conferta, which ranges in size from 4-6mm in length. I. conferta has been collected on Melaleuca quinquenervia and M. dealbata (Myrtaceae) while I. pellucida has been collected on Melaleuca viridiflora. Evans (1966) also lists Acacia (Mimosaceae) as a host for I. conferta and Evans (1969b) gives Grevillea (Proteaceae) as a host for I. pellucida.
