Subfamily Typhlocybinae
Tribe Erythroneurini

The Erythroneurini are well represented in Australia with many tropical species still to be described. They are mainly extremely delicate leafhoppers and include the smallest Australian forms. Some are brightly coloured, with red, white and black markings but many are uniformly green or yellow. They are reliably identified to species only after examination of the structures of the male genitalia. New Zealand has five species currently placed in the genus Zygina. Of these four are endemic and the other is Z. zealandica, a common species in Australia as well [update: 12.ii.2001].

The Australian species of this tribe have been under study by the author, funded by ABRS, and it is evident that the placement of many of the described species in their current genus is doubtful. The Tribe needs a comprehensive world revision at the generic level to clearly define generic limits to enable confident placement of new species.

Species of Typhlocybinae: Erythroneurini known to occur in Australia

Many undescribed species of Typhlocybinae are known to occur in Australia. ABRS funding has allowed taxonomic research on this subfamily to be undertaken and this list will therefore be updated as the descriptions of the new species are published.
