Genus Trypetimorpha Costa 1862: 60

Type species: Trypetimorpha fenestrata Costa, designated by Oshanin 1912: 121 (Europe)

Synonym: Trichoduchus Bierman 1910: 28, synonymised by Asche and Wilson 1989a: 130

Known species: This genus contains eight species distributed in Asia, New Guinea, East Africa, Europe and the Middle East with two species found in Australia: T. wilsoni in SE Qld and NSW and T. aschei extending to NT from PNG.

Comments: These unusual tropiduchids are quite distinctive in the Australian fauna with the reduced wing venation and short dumpy shape. Trypetimorpha species exhibit brachyptery (see image). The genus was revised by Huang & Bourgoin (1993) who commented on the fact that the occurrence of a species of Trypetimorpha in Australia was biogeographically interesting, as so few tropiduchid genera are found here. T. asche Huang & Bourgoin (1993), described from New Guinea, has been found in NT.
