| Genus Alleloplasis Waterhouse 1839: 194 Type species: Alleloplasis darwinii Waterhouse 1839, by monotypy Known species: Two species are described, the type from outback areas of NSW, SA and WA, and A. vespula Fennah from WA. A further form is known from Barrow Island, WA. Comments: These bizarre creatures are found in arid zones across the southern half of Australia. In his original description of A. vespula, Fennah (1949) raised the possibility that A. darwinii and A. vespula were variants of the same species. Further specimens, possibly representing an additional species, have been collected in pitfall traps on Barrow Island, NW WA and further study is needed to determine whether these forms are all part of a single variable species distributed across much of arid zone Australia or whether they represent separate species.
