Siphanta acutipennis Kirkaldy 1906: 454
Synonyms: Siphantoides alboconspersus Distant 1910a: 305; Siphantoides conspicuus Distant 1910a: 306; Siphantoides trimaculatus Distant 1910a: 306

Type: Lectotype male (desig. Fletcher 1985: 40) Cairns, Qld, vii.1904, BPB

Distribution: N.Qld, NT

Note: This tropical species is one of the largest of the genus and is quite variable in the extent of red colouring, ranging from that shown here to entirely absent. S. acutipennis can be separated from S. expatria using the structures of the male genitalia (see below). To date, locality records of S. expatria and S. acutipennis indicate that they are also geographically distinct.

Siphanta expatria Fletcher 1985: 41

Type: Holotype male, New Guinea, Neth, Eramboe, 80km ex Merauke, 29.i.1960, T.C. Maa, BPB

Distribution: Irian Jaya

Note: The possibility that S. acutipennis occurs in PNG means that care should be taken in identifying this species based on locality. S. expatria males can be differentiated from those of S. acutipennis by having the pygofer process triangular (knobbed in S. acutipennis) and the paramere process broadly truncate apically (apically pointed in S. acutipennis).
