| The Australian
Eurybrachidae are a quite distinctive component of the world fauna. Fennah (1964) regarded all Australian species to belong in the
Tribe Platybrachyini and provided a key to the 13 included genera, 10 of which are endemic
to Australia. The most widespread genus within Australia is Platybrachys the
species of which are usually found on the main trunk of trees of the myrtaceous genus Eucalyptus.
The biology of P. leucostigma was described by Hacker (1924). Species of Olonia and Dardus are
found on the mimosaceous genus Acacia. There are no records of Eurybrachidae from New Guinea which probably indicates that further work is needed to catalogue the New Guinean fauna. The family is represented in Indonesia by a number of species of Eurybrachyini and there are further species of other tribes in Malaysia which may also occur in Indonesia. The world fauna is currently being reviewed by Jerôme Constant in Belgium. Note that some authors use Eurybrachyidae rather than Eurybrachidae. |
