Genus Gelastocephalus Kirkaldy 1906: 402
Tarberus Jacobi (1928) synonymised by Fennah (1969).

Type species Gelastocephalus ornithoides Kirkaldy (1906)

Known species: G. ornithoides from NSW and Qld and G. velifer Löcker & Larivière from NSW & Vic.

Distribution. NSW, Qld, SA, Vic (a female specimen of the genus from SA cannot be identified to species)

Remarks. Fennah (1969) synonymised the type species of Tarberus, T. semicarinatus, with G. ornithoides thereby making Tarberus a junior objective synonym of Gelastocephalus. The following combination of characters is diagnostic for this genus: pale yellow face, lack of a median carina on the frons and a distinctly elevated median carina on postclypeus and anteclypeus.
