Genus Polychaetophyes Kirkaldy 1906: 384, Type species: Polychaetophyes serpulidia, by monotypy

Generic Distribution: Australia

Australian species: Only the type species, P. serpulidia, is known. It has been found at Biloela and Dimbulah in Queensland as well as from the Northern Territory and has been listed by Evans (1966) also from South Australia.

Comments: This species is very similar in appearance to species of Chaetophyes and Pectinariophyes but differs in the presence of raised spots on the tegmen and the presence of a Y-vein in the clavus. Its distribution indicates that it is not a coastal species and may be widespread in the poorly collected inland areas of northern Australia.
