166, Type species: Amarusa picea Walker, by monotypy Synonyms: Eoptyelus Jacobi 1921: 8, synonymised by Hamilton 1980a: 366 Distribution: Indonesia (Borneo, Sarawak), Philippines (Luzon), Qld, NSW Australian species: Only one species, Amarusa australis (Jacobi 1921: 9), is recorded in Australia. Comments: This is the largest Australian spittlebug and is relatively uncommon in collections. In late 2008, large numbers of this species were found on certain rainforest e.g. native Wisteria (Fabaceae: Callerya megasperma), and backyard trees in SE Queensland causing "rain" under the trees (Chris Lambkin, Gordon Grigg, pers. comm. xi.2008). This liquid was used by cane toads to rehydrate (Gordon Grigg, pers. comm. xi.2008) [update: 26.xi.2008]
