Asian and Exotic Fruit
LONGAN

Euphoria longan

Cantonese: Loon Ngan
French: Litchi ponceau
Malay: Lengkleng

Very similar in shape to the lychee, but slightly smaller, and with a dull brown skin which is smoother than that of the lychee. The fruit taste is similar, and the value of longan on the market is due to the fact that its season follows that of the lychee, extending the period when this type of fruit is available.

Growing conditions and Availability: Grown in Northern Territory, Queensland and as far south as northern New South Wales, the season extending from January to April.

Marketing: The fruit is marketed in 5kg quarter cartons, loosely packed in bunches.
